BT home hub 5 broad band username hyphen issue

Go to solution

I currently have a problem with my "BT home hub 5".

My provider is john lewis which uses the BT/plusnet boardband net work.

The broadand user name is in the form "xxxx@john-lewis.com" as you can see the name has hyphen in it.

This causes a problem with the version of BT home hub 5 i have. ie when you try to enter it it says its in valid and so does not try to connect.

My current Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204.1.11 (Type A).

Does any one know about this problem?

Is it resolved in a later firm ware?

As i see it any one could try to see if would accept hyphen by trying to change it to a made up name and see hub allows you enter the name. Please be care full if you try this as you will have change back to your own user name and password to reconnect your broadband.

I am also try to pursue with john lewis but findin hard going as wil there own hardware works fine.

@SmoothDave

As your provider is John Lewis, then they are the people you need to ask.

This is a BT Retail forum for BT Phone and broadband and has nothing to do with any other ISP.

If they use Plusnet as their supplier, then try the Plusnet user forums

Plusnet Forum - Index | Community Site

You would be better sticking with the hardware your ISP provides.

Thanks for your reply.

I am also pursuing john lewis/plusnet support but the problem would seem to be with the "BT home hub 5".

i was hoping some one could assist in upgrading the BT home hub 5.

If you are not happy with your ISP provided router, then just buy your own 3rd party router, avoiding the BT ones, as they will not accept the "-" character in the login details. This is more likely an issue within the core code that the home hubs use. Its not possible to change or upgrade this.

Thanks for your reply.

The BT hub will actualy work with plusnet, its not just locked to BT.

I think the hypen problem is problem in the code and not delibrate lock.

Am wondering if its fixed in later version?

Most likely because PlusNet is a BT group company
