BT internet server

I just had a call from someone claiming to be from BT Internet technical services saying that there is a new BT server in my area and I need to re log on to BT internet as otherwise I was unlikely to have internet access for several days. They wanted to talk me through the process on my computer. I didn't follow through with the conversation as I couldn't verify that they were who they said they were. Is this a scam?

It is undoubtedly a scam. BT would never contact you or need you to log onto a new server. Can you imagine how many customers BT would need to contact if that were the case. It would all happen automatically if ever there was a need for such a thing,which there isn't.
