BT line installed about 10 years ago, will it still work today?

Hi,

My parents had a BT line installed in their home about 10 years ago. After a few years, they stopped using BT and no longer used the line that was installed. From what I can see, everything is still installed but it's just not being used, so my question is:

If I buy the broadband only fibre 2 deal, can I just plug it into the BT socket myself? (and would it even work?) My parents are very afraid of COVID, and wouldn't like an engineer to enter their home.

The line would need engineer to check it still works with no noise. Is over 10 years probably need new master socket

just need to phone BT SALES and place an order

The chances are that the pair of wires that were used going back towards the telephone exchange have been re-used. So a new pair would need to be provided
