BT protect, how does it work?

Go to solution

Hi i'd like to know how BT protect works. Does it work via transparent proxying through BT for web traffic? Does it work through DNS? Im asking because i'd like to know if it affects latency and if it would have any other effects on my network.

It intercepts DNS requests, and does not affect latency.

Thanks, i guess i wont need it since ia already intercept DNS requests at my router and use with openDNS.

It will need to be disabled, an the same goes for BT Parental controls which will have to be uninistalled via MyBT.

If you do not do this, you will get an error message saying that you are not using BTs DNS servers. All port 53 requests are intercepted by BT, so even if you use OpenDNS, you will still get the error message if BT Protect, or Parental controls are active.
