My BT yahoo mail acount has changed to bty(numbers)@yahoo.com when yesterday it was what it used to be @btinternet.com. I can find the old name as an alias but the email adress itself has changed, though i can sign in using the old name. Why has this happened?

Hi, welcome to the forums.
I've just looked at webmail too, and can see what you mean. Emails sent from it show as from the bty address.
When composing emails, you can use the drop down arrow to pick the right address, but this is going to catch many people out.
It looks like the default address setting has been either reset or been removed completely.
However, what is weird is that a "reply-to" of the btinternet address is set when sending from the bty address. Clearly when received, people are going to wonder what is happening.
Edit: It's also possible that your "From" name is different too - as that is set against the account name.
@jamesscorrwrote:
It's quite odd because i haven't changed any settings . Thanks for the response andy.
Likewise.
I've checked 3 accounts, and they are all "affected". As I mentioned, the default sending account seems to have been lost - causing this issue.
It's in Settings/Writing email.
It can't be just you and me!

This happened to me also on 30Mar18 but only in the Yahoo Mail android app on my Samsung GS4. It's fine on my laptop using Windows Live Mail. It's fine accessing using browser access to BT mail. I spent a lot of time with BT Chat because 'My BT' has changed its security and I felt the two might be connected. I have 3 btinternet accounts. One of them showed as a random yahoo account in the left hand menu pop-in bar. BT Chat advised to uninstall and reinstall the app. I haven't done that yet as I am worried about losing my local email folders. Instead I've tried managing the accounts within the app. There is limited managing functionality for btinternet accounts. Using the on/off slider to disable/enable the accounts (having to re-enter-enter password) appeared to cure the problem. However this morning the issue was back. I tried force stop, cache and data clear from phone settings. That caused a second accout to go wrong. Within Yahoo mail app settings i used its clear cache. Now all 3 accounts show wrong on menu bar. Only one has "bty"number@yahoo.com. The other 2 have lettersnumbers@yahoo.com. As a test I sent an email to friend and had them Reply it. It was rejected by Mailer Daemon as the yahoo email address was unknown. In desperation I will uninstall and reinstall the App.
Thanks for the feedback, however I suggest that you don't remove the app. It's not an app issue. The app effectively gets the information via a sort of "webmail access" I believe. Unlike clients which do their own thing.
I've not used the app, but is there a setting for "default sending address" - like actual webmail? I sort of expect not and would need to be done in webmail as I said in another post.
But what seems different in the app, it doesn't set a Reply-to address when using the service account. These service accounts are, as you've seen, not proper email addresses.
As I expected, this is going to cause big issues.
Yahoo have either messed something up, or done some update that causes this issue.
Over to the mail team to get in touch with Yahoo.
I've alerted the mods to the problem.
Its not even consistent. I don't use webmail but have just tested some accounts. My primary account has a drop down list including the random number@yahoo but correct address as default, one secondary doesn't have a drop down list or any indication of the 'From' field but sends from the correct address, another secondary has a drop down list with the number@yahoo as the default!!
Hi guys,
Thanks for flagging this and thanks to @licquorice for raising to me.
I have reported this and my colleagues are aware of a potential issue. Can whoever is seeing this issue send me a private message with what your mailbox should be and what it has changed to? (Normally we don't deal via PM but I'll pick things up this way as a one off).
I'll not reply to everyone individually however I'll post the outcome on here.
Cheers,
Robbie
I have the same problem. How can I PM you with my details.????
Thanks
Dave
