Robbie as a moderator of the forum, I appreciate your efforts at keeping it friendly. If I said something untrue or off topic, I apologise unreservedly. However you must recognise that being unable to log into banks, building societies or surgeries, is a cause for concern.

Sorry, I really don't see how the problem stops you doing anything. It is quite simple to change the address in the 'from' field.  Either just select the correct address fromthe drop down list innthe 'from' field each time you send a mail or change it as i described in an earlier post. It certainly won't stop you logging in to banks etc, your username there is just a text string, the fact it is also an email address is irrelevant, just continue to log in as normal.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

If I may ... Ofcom have no control over Yahoo, however as your supplier is BT, then much like a shop selling branded goods, the shop is the place to contact, to me it's the place to go and get sorted. I don't know the legal side of things with regard telecoms services.

To be frank, as you're now using the paid for mail services, it really is worth changing to a non ISP email address - and tell all your contacts, change any contact email address in websites etc. Gmail is always a recommended service, and is free. It might take a few months or a year, but really you would be better off. There are simply too many problems with the BTinternet email service (not least due to two different suppliers, Yahoo and Openwave) to stick with it. BT have never explained the situation when migration was stopped to BTMail over 3½ years ago. I can't see why they continue to keep this crazy situation.

Logging into any service is unaffected, I don't see how this current fiasco impinges on any back/building society login. My accesses don't use anything like email addresses, and if they did - this has no bearing.

Plusnet have their own management structure and are completely separate, anything affecting BTinternet does not affect Plusnet.

....I'm having exactly the same problem. Phoned up BT advisors who had no idea what was at issue. Told me to look online. My primary email address, although working, has changed its name both on the app & via Google Chrome to my 1st name + some random no's, then @Yahoo. Have you got a timeframe for when this problem will be fixed...?

Your email address hasn't changed its name, the default sending address has changed. In chrome simply change the default as explained in message 19 as a workaround. If you send using btyxxxxxx, you will not receive replies sent to that address.

Hi Andy

I agree that changing to another email server is the answer and already have a gmail address for less important mails. I also have an original yahoo address from going on line years ago, to access my groups. The problem as you pointed out, is it may take months or years to go through 5000 or more emails. Microsoft, when I tried to start using Outlook again, downloaded emails dating back to 2012. The only option given to delete them all, or wade through them!

In essence you "only" need to tell your contacts that you're changing email address, and will stop using the BTinternet one, say in 6 months - so best if they change their address book as soon as they can. You can easily send out a reminder or two.

The online forums/website access (or the contact email address) can be a lot trickier as you've implied! However, as you've told your contacts - any received emails will mostly be from mailing lists from sites etc - so may not be too daunting.

With regard Outlook, asssuming you've left the box ticked to leave messages on server, or using IMAP - all the emails will download up to the local index Outlook will hold against the account. So initially it will get them all. After that initial bow wave, new "check for emails" will only see those since you last checked.

Naturally you can set up brand new Gmail accounts to suit, so a fresh start might be helpful. It'll also stop you being tied to BTinternet, and for Premium email - stop that cost after you're sure it can be deleted.

Re: BT yahoo mail address changed

Hi guys,

So basically after the initial 24hour frustrations 3 days ago I stopped trying to correct the issue myself. Over the next 24 hours my three email accounts that had visually gone from btinternet.com ones to yahoo.com returned to their normal names.  I carried out Send and Reply tests with a friend and all three are now replying normally without being rejected.  I gave it another 24 hours to ensure they were staying good and they have. So it all seeems OK now for me.  Hopefully it's returning to normal  for all of you as well.  Good luck all.

The bty account still shows as my primary account - this is the issue I'd still like answered - how do I remove it completely and revert back to my regular address as my primary account?

....I'm in exactly the same situation. I want to delete this 'rogue' address. Nothing appears to be fixing the issue-I've even tried  the tip from message 19 (settings-writing email-default sending account). Has anyone got any ideas what else I can try? In anticipation....
