My btinternet.com email has suddenly changed to name/numbers@yahoo.com. I was really worried as I thought I'd been hacked then I found this forum. What is happening?
Hi, welcome to the forums.
Take a look at messages 19 & 20 in this forum thread, it gives details how to change the default sending address (if that's what your issue is).
The bty address might still show as the window title.
The problem (apparently) was caused by a mismanaged Yahoo server change.
Hi there.
Sadly, this issue is still ongoing. It affected me yesterday, and no alterations to default addresses seem to make any difference whatsoever. I'm stuck with a default e-mail address as the hand-over address between servers.
It is, to say the least, rather frustrating.
Help!
You can't change which is the 'Primary Account' but you can change the default sending account by following the procedure I described in message 19 or you can just select which account to send from in the drop down list in the 'From' field for each individual mail you send.
The default e-mail doesn't change. I have done this several times - no joy.
Changing the sending address for each individual e mail does work, but it's not really a satisfactory solution. There will be occasions where one simply forgets and an e-mail is sent to from an address that does not take replies...
Did you click 'Save' after changing the default sending address in the 'Writing' options?
A personal update re the 'yahoo mail address changed' issue ...
Yesterday, I had my fourth BT email support chat session, again requesting a permanent solution to this ongoing problem. At long last the support person accepted that this configuration was not something the BT Yahoo email customer could correct via the web-mail Settings interface and that it would need some response/action from Yahoo mail server support folk. Progress!! I again repeated that this was impacting many BT Yahoo mail users and directed the chat support person to this BT Community thread.
The support person said that he would escalate this issue to his manager and the 'Level 2' support team and that they would contact me later today. I'm not so bothered about being contacted, it would be great if we were all informed that Yahoo are working on fixing it.

( BTW - At the very start of the chat session I was informed that the chat support team were not aware of this ongoing issue and did not have any visibility of it on their support call logging system. )

Did I click 'save'?
Seven times so far...

Should be enough ...
As a matter of interest to get more information, is the account a typical BTinternet account associated with your BT Broadband account? Or is it Premium email? Is it s Primary or sub account.
Not sure if any of that's relevant, but might be useful.
Try a different browser, shouldn't make any difference but you never know. The workaround works fine for me in Firefox.
You can also try changing the reply-to address in the account settings. Select the btyxxxxx@yahoo account and change as screenshot
Better still, use the proper tool for the job, a mail client then you won't need a workaround.
