BTTV HD channel signal quality Signal strength 100% Quality 0%

Hi , hunting for an answer/help or link to similar questions .  On my HD channels (101,102,103,104,105....)  i quite often see YVM302 pop up.  The picture is fine (no pixelation and can be seen under the message) and if channel is recorded there are no issues and no pop up message.

When i check the channel signal I see stregth ranging from 90%-100% but signal quality 0%.

Can anyone tell me what they think the issue might be  ?  Extra info is that I run my signal through a booster before it gets to the box.

Thanks

Try removing the booster as the tuners on the Humax Youview boxes can be very easily overpowered and with a signal strength hitting 100% it can cause unpredictable results.

The aim in terms of signal strength should in the range  85-95% with only a 1-2% fluctuation. If the booster is not accessible - like it's aerial mounted - then a variable attenuator can be fitted into the feed prior to the Youview box. This is not an ideal way to do it though.

Another possibility could be caused by interference from a closeby cable that is poorly shielded and this can affect the higher frequencies used by the HD channels, so try separating cables from around the aerial cable.

Thanks for this , tried bypassing the booster and I see a drop in signal strength but no increase in quality still 0%.    The aerial cable runs alongside a CAT6 cable and a power cable for a wall socket which i am unable to re-configure.

That could be the issue as I was losing the HD channels on my TV when I had a poorly shielded ethernet cable running tight with the aerial, changing the ethernet cable cured it. The TV is wall mounted & the cables run through a duct in the wall. The Youview box was unaffected as it was quite separately located.

I'd suggest trying to change or temporarily remove the ethernet cable to see the effect.

Re: BTTV HD channel signal quality Signal strength 100% Quality 0%

With digital TV, the signal quality is more important than the signal strength, the figures you posted suggest to me that your aerial and TV are ok. That leaves the booster and the TV box, is the booster the type that is powered by a separate power brick? if so, and if it's possible, try another.

I replaced mine with an old mobile phone charger but that required cutting and joining the wire so make sure you get the polarity right if you go down that road.

Edit: I assume you have tried plugging the aerial directly into the TV as opposed to the TV box?

Thanks both for you help, i've tried a few things (changing boost level, disconnecting and re-connecting coax cables)  I now have a 90% signal and  20-30% (dependant on channel) Quality.  No error messages and everything seems to be working ok .  There are othe options you have suggested still to try to get the quality higher.

I don't know if you're familiar with the term "mains hum" but just by way of explanation, that's my line of thinking

Re: BTTV HD channel signal quality Signal strength 100% Quality 0%

Hi. Not sure if this helps but thought I would post it anyway. It does tell me that all modern TV’s and boxes are susceptible to interference. The spitter before the TV and or you BT box may solve the issue.

I replaced replaced a very old Labgear distribution amp. With UHF and VHF inputs. Initially I found that both TV and the BT Box (on HD channels only) signal were dropping out in a cycle of about two seconds. All other Channels apart from HD were good. Because I had changed the Ariel at the same time (which was originally faulty) I called the Ariel person back. He naturally blamed the new distribution amp. After I tried lots of different things I found the issue. Disconnecting the VHF feed into the new distribution amp fix the problem. It was the same with a new Labgear amp! So I purchased a TV/VHF splitter so that VHF was filtered before going into TV and BT Box. All was fixed!! The Ariel person had not seen this issue before so be aware. This is a good product and recommended.
