I am paying for 55Mbs download speed and getting about 47Mbs according to BTW Performance Test. Is that acceptable?
Also my BTW test is not recording an upload speed at all even after several attempts. I have used another checker (Speed Checker) and that seems to record correctly. Is there something wrong with BTW Performance test. Any thoughts please?
47mb download speed is good for your 55mb connection speed after your allow for overheads
btspeedtester often has 'off' days and it could just as easily work later or tomorrow or with a different browser
Many thanks. What do you mean by "overheads"? Loss around the house etc?
Tried a different browser will try again tomorrow.
Overheads are the extra information sent and recieved to maintain the connection and allow web pages etc to load and downloads to complete.
An internet connection is made up of 7 layers, each layer has protocol overheads which eat up up the speed.
Think of it in terms of a letter inside an envelope inside parcel etc. The parcel is quite large but only contains a small letter.
Thanks. For most of this year I have been receiving 50Mbs plus but just recently consistently below 50Mbs. If you say 47Mbs is acceptable I will leave it at that as I am not looking for another battle with BT. (Connection keeps dropping out).
Will try speed check tomorrow. Thanks all.
