BTmobile have issued a list of android phones that MAY work with WiFi calling. The Motorola G7power is on this list. If I purchased the SIM free phone from say John Lewis and put in my BTmobile SIM card would WiFi calling work? Or do I have to get unlocked phone from BT mobile because of getting the right firmware on it? If I do purchase it from BT mobile will they gaurantee WiFi calling will work?
I do not understand why they are so hesitant on this subject
Help please
Mike

only phones from BT which are on their list of approved phones that will work with wifi calling. This is not unusual as similar with other isp - sky. If third party phone it may work
BT phones are locked for 6 months from start of contract and can the be unlocked
My understanding @mikev21 is that it's the firmware that the phone has which is a key factor.
This old and VERY lengthy thread is worth reading, changing the firmware is an option but it does come with risks. It's quite possible that the sim free version of the phone has different firmware installed than the one that can be purchased from BT.
Thanks Andy, I understand now
My wife has an Moto g7 power purchased from Argos. With her BTmibile SIM inside she is able to use WiFi calling and volte.
Thanks for this Rob but I have just bought the contract one from BT at £12 per month for 24 months contract. However when I look at the maths it is not bad(I think)--
Cost of phone after 24 months == £288
Cancelling £10 a month for
anytime calls = -£240
SIM is included with Phone so
existing SIM at £5 a month = - £120
Average extra cost of main phone
to mobile calls about £3 a month = - £72
Thus I will be £154 better off. I will not own the phone but by then it will be out of date anyway.
I am not an accountant so please go ahead and destroy my maths.
Regards
Mike
