If your downstream noise margin is higher than 6dB, then you are in a banded profile.

A higher than 6dB margin does NOT always indicate banded profiles.

At present my noise margins are 6/6.4 and and have been that way for quite some time now.

Then its unlikely to improve any further.

Not so much a problem but with a max data rate of 30+ I only ever sync at 27.4 giving me an actual download speed of around 24.

The sync rate of 27.4 never changes even by a small amount but the upload rate does seem to vary a little.

27.4meg is a banded profile.

What does http://dslchecker.bt.com show for your line?

I'll be honest, unless there's a fault, there's nothing wrong with your connection. Being a few meg shy of the max attainable is totally normal. Even if you were syncing at 30meg, you'd see no improvement in your day to say usage. All you'd see is a higher number on a speed test.
