I was recently made aware that our exchange was upgraded to offer ADSL2+ from ADSL Max broadband, and have neighbours who have been able to be upgraded to the faster speeds that this offiers.
I spoke with BT customer care and their tech team last week who frstly advised that ADSL2+ was not available and I was on the fastest conection available, then somebody else said that I was already on ADSL2+ and my speed was unable to be made faster.
My broadband package advises a speed of upto 17meg, however, the maximum I have ever had was about 6.5meg in the middle of the night. Usually I will received between 3-5 meg.
Could one of the mods please look into this for me, and confirm once and for all whether I am on ADSL2+ and if so, where the issue may lie.
(Stats below were taken from a laptop hardwired to the router.)
Solved! Go to Solution.
With an upload speed of 448K, it's very unlikely that you're on ADSL 2+. ADSLMax is capped at exactly 448K. ADSL 2+ decides the speed for itself, and can be up to about 1.1M.
Also, have a look further through the Advanced settings for a more detailed page of statistics, to find the "Modulation". ADSL 2+ is "G.992.5 Annex A". If it's "G.992.3" then that's ADSL 2, while "G.992.1" or "G.dmt" is ADSLMax.
Edit: Beaten me to it. G992.1 is definitely ADSLMax.
Having been through the same problem a few years back, it appears that the call centres are particularly clueless about the details of ADSL modulation.
The only solution seems to be for the mods on this forum to put through an upgrade order manually. Unfortunately, I don't have the authority on this forum to ask the mods to come and look at this thread. With any luck, either they will spot it, or one of the regulars who do have that ability will drop them a hint.
Edit: beaten to it again!
