Got my 3 monthly bill in a few weeks ago and was charged for calls to a number in my area that I don't know who it is. Used live chat and got refunded the £3.40 for calls but I find I been charged 60p for calling the same number last week on the 26th January at 5.12am when I would have still been in bed and I still don't know who the number is. It's been a few months since I have had a phone plugged in to the landline.
I now only use landline of broadband and TV services. Dads stays in house and is now in his late 80s and hard of hearing and now going partly blind. He also as of a few years ago was told he has the early stages of dementia so he cant of used the phone. Let alone been able to plug one in.
My sister did get a community alarm put in for him a few months ago.
Any help would be great full .

Interesting that you say there's an alarm installed, the calls could well be it testing/checking in
Dial 17070 and check that the phone number that is read out, matches your home phone number, just in case you have a crossed line.
Have you Google'd the phone number? If it's a business, it should reverse search the business name...
I had this happen too.
Every month there was an extra charge for calls I had not made.
After much head scratching and investigation it was discovered that my 'community alarm' was doing a 'system self check' every month.
Apparently the timing of the checks can be altered in the settings but as yet I have not understood exactly how to do them.
I hope this helps.
do you have a monitoring or care line for your Dad? if so, it could be that which is doing an automated update.
As far as I know I don’t have a monitoring or care line for the alarm.
I have Googled the number and it’s a number it’s in my town but that’s all it says.
Just seems strange.

Check for a crossed line, as I suggested, as you may end up with a large bill if your line is crossed, as you will be charged for the other person`s phone calls.
Have just plugged phone in a dialled 17070 and the number matches my landline number.
Have now unplugged the phone again as don't use landline to make calls.
