Below 1MB Down/up speeds.

Hello, I'm currently on the Unlimited BT Infinity 2 package and my internet speeds have always been unbearabley slow. It usually hangs around 7-8Mbps on wireless and isn't much better when wired. Any reason for this or any solutions?

Re: Below 1MB Down/up speeds.

When did you get it installed?

Do you have an Openreach modem and what homehub are you using?

Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results

http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome

and use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

When did you get it installed? Don't know the exact date but it was around 3 years ago I believe.

Do you have an Openreach modem and what homehub are you using? Yes I do have an Openreach modem and I'm using homehub 3.0

Re: Below 1MB Down/up speeds.

Can you run the diagnostics part of the speed test and post that.

Has the speeds been as slow as that since it was installed or has the speed drop been a recent thing?

Re: Below 1MB Down/up speeds.

The speeds have been pretty bad since we installed it, but I always thought that it was normal speed.

Re: Below 1MB Down/up speeds.

Your estimated speeds are pretty good but obviously the speeds you are getting are very bad. I think that you will need to contact BT and report a fault to them but before you do, just to ensure it is not your equipment can you do the following.

1) Try and run the speed test with a different computer connected by Ethernet cable. If the speeds are still poor this will rule out your computer being a problem.

2) Make a direct connection from your PC to the Openreach modem which will eliminate the homehub. Follow this guide to do that. Use your computer as normal and run the speed test again.

Step 1: Remove the homehub from the Openreach modem

Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port

Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network

Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE

Step5: Username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and the password as BT

Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.
