Hi,
I've just moved home and am re-setting up my home broadband (FTTP) and wifi, etc. I have a brand new Fibre SmartHub2, 3 x Whole Home Discs (white), and a digital voice phone, and I'm trying to work out the best way to set everything up.
Ideally, I'd like to turn the wifi off on my SmartHub 2 (to reduce the number of networks / channels being used as it's quite congested where i live), and simply use the wifi on the whole home discs. However, last time I tried to ceonnect the BT wireless Digital Voice phone to anything other that the SmartHub 2, it didn't work.
So my question is: is there any way to connect my BT Essentials Digital phone to the wifi from my Whole Home discs, or will it only conect directly to my SmartHub 2?
your digital voice phone does not connect wireless to your hub. the hub is a dect base station and you phones connect similar to any other cordless phone
Sorry @imjolly, you're wrong this time, I'm afriad! I have a digital voice phone which connects to a wireless network (WiFi) - its not a DECT phone, it has no ports or connectors on it and works entirely over WiFi - there is no connection to a "legacy" phone port / socket. More info below:

Edit: the phone hub, is simply a charging port for the wireless phone - it has no other connectors or sockets on it. just power for charging.
I have digital voice and 2 essential phone and if you go to hub manager then your phone number you will see they are rigister to the base which is the hub they are dect phone not wireless. there are numerous posts about digital phones
you can just turn off the wireless in the hub and your phones will still work as long as they are within dect range of the hub
I guess you didn't read this part in the manual
Radio transmission information
Frequency range (MHz) Max power
1881.792–1897.344 250mW
Digital voice is DECT to the hub, not wifi
@imjolly Is correct, the phone is a custom DECT phone, and connects to the DECT base transmitter which is within the home hub.
DECT transmissions are a form of digital wireless base to handset and vice versa communications.

If you look at the specification of the Smart Hub 2, you will see it includes a DECT base unit.
Oh... So why do i have to use the WPS button to connect it to the hub then? And does that mean I can connect the heandset then turn the WiFi off onaon the hub and the phone will still work?
I guess it is a dual function button.
Yes

yes that is what I told you - try it turn of hub wifi and phone will still work
@Cocksy , I too went through this loop with the same logic (WPS etc), but the DV phones are indeed using DECT to the SH2. I found this quite frustrating at the time as some of my DV phones are at the far limit of DECTs reach in my property, which could have easily been resolved with Wifi discs. I did actually raise this with the product team in the hope that they can make this clearer in the online and printed documentation, but I've yet to see any change.
