Re: Bookmarks

I'm talking about use under normal circumstances. If it is the only browser on a machine it makes it difficult for the non-techie to access the internet

Re: Bookmarks

Go to solution

After raising the issue of "missing bookmarks" with on-line support (BT Technical Help) I am advised on 3rd March "that this is a known problem where your bookmarks have temporarily disappeared.  We are striving to fix the problem and as soon as we have the problem fixed we will update your browser settings so that you can view all your previously saved bookmarks".

Since then silence and the status issue that there is a problem has disappered.

Subsequent posts may indicate that this will not be resolved.

Come on BT there are a lot of us paying premium prices for your service but you need to deliver!

Re: Bookmarks

Go to solution

Hi Stephanie

I write in support of all those who have previously posted.  The sign in page via the desktop icon gives all those in my household the ability to sign into their own BTyahoo browser and there fore have their own bookmarks, set up etc etc.  The bookmarks issue is now posing a high problem to a huge number of users.  I contacted the technical help team and received a call back informing me this issue would be sorted within 24 hours and was caused by an "outage".  It is now over 48 hours ago the problem first started.  The service status page (which is difficult to find) had the issue posted as ongoing and due for resolution.  Now it has gone from the service status page and is still not rectified.  Removing old browsers and installing new ones does not resolve this issue.  Someone within BT has obviously made a mistake and now it would appear that BT cannot or will not sort it out.  BT still hold the UK population to ransom with having to pay for basic line rental even if they never use their phones just to have a broadband connection.  When even the regulator is encouraging "naked" broadband, why do BT hold us to ransom and then when a problem occurs with their browser try to fob us off with work arounds and downloading other BT software that doesn't sort the issue.

It is about time this issue is sorted and that peoples bookmarks are restored by BT and that what ever problem BT created should be resolved by BT.  No warning of this was given, no explanation has been given and furthermore it obviously was a service issue as per the service status page, but BT have failed miserably in communication - apparently their specialism!!

Cut the excuses, sort it out and do it now and don't let your colleagues from India ring me telling me it is being resolved, when it isn't.

If BT have made a fatal mistake, at least have the guts to admit it!

Re: Bookmarks

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who is annoyed.

Andy can you let us have the number you called, I'm paying 4.99 a month for free calls with BT so I'll give them a call and waltz round their queue system for a bit and see if I can get a fault number or something. Was it a call centre in India or was it UK based, I've found that if you talk to someone in the UK you get more of a response

Re: Bookmarks

Go to solution

Hi Jim

I contacted BT using the contact us feature from the BT.com website and received an automated email response with an incident number on Tuesday 2nd March 2010.  I received a call back from the India call centre at 16.07 on Wednesday 3rd March 2010.  Their number was 08003289393.

Don't know whether this helps, but good luck anyway and I would be interested to know what response you get.

Cheers

Andy.

Re: Bookmarks

If you have multiple broadband accounts and wish to keep each accounts bookmarks separate (meaning not visible to those accessing the other accounts) there is only one solution since the loss of the 'old' BT browser sign-in interface; you will have to define a separate OS user account for each user.

The process is quite straightforward, if your OS is Windows. For once the Windows help on this is actually very helpful!

In essence this means that each user has a discrete environment. Changes can be made to their browser layout, colour schemes, favourites, menu layout etc and even what programmes they can see in the windows start menu without it affecting the settings for the other users.

If you go to the Windows Control Panel and select the User Accounts icon (In XP Pro, other versions will be similar) there’s a useful Learn About set of links (top left) that tell you all you need to know about the subject.

Re: Bookmarks

Monterey_Jack (see posting) , would you care to be a little more informative and tell us why you disagree or what aspect you are disagreeing with?

The windows user account approach is used in the business environment for just this purpose (to allow multiple users access to a single PC, enabling each user to have their own settings and to make certain changes without affecting the other users). This is also a perfectly sensible approach in a home with multiple users.

I know perfectly well there are ways for those with a bit of technical ability to view say the bookmarks for each of the individual users. I believe that most people posting here just want a solution that works reliably and gives them back the ability to separate the the reults of their online activites.

If you have a better solution lets hear it. Just posting 'Erm---No!' is of no value.

Re: Bookmarks

Go to solution

Stephanie,

I would appreciate it if you could explain this to me in English as I am non-techie. I have two ways into the internet from my desktop: the BT Yahoo Browser icon, which I use, and the Internet Explorer one which my wife uses, and which comes up in a completely different style and format. Mine has my favourites, and hers has hers.

Following your instructions, I have downloaded IE8 onto my computer with no discernable change (ie I still can't get my bookmarks to work).

Are you suggesting that I should now remove the BT Yahoo Browser from my PC, leaving us with just my wife's Internet Explorer icon? As I say, not being techie, I don't understand this. How do we get separate favourites? More importantly, as I am paying BT for my phone line and internet connection, will I get a refund if their browser is no longer available?

Can you please answer me two simple questions:

1) Is the problem ever going to be fixed?

2) How do I get my bookmarks to work if I remove the BT Yahoo browser?

I can't believe that with so many angry and frustrated people out there, you continue to come up with no acceptable solution or fix.

Re: Bookmarks

Go to solution

Hi All,

For some strange reason all BT Yahoo Browser bookmarks have suddenly reappeared. Does anyone know if the problem has been fixed or are people still having problems?

As usual, no mention has been made on the Service Status page that this problem has been resolved and I am wondering whether it has actually been fixed due to the number of people complaining or whether this is just a one off?

Regards
