I there any workaround for this problem. I tried twice on my mobile and once on my tablet - all three times I get the password error message. The hub connects perfectly with ethernet, but the wifi side is effectively denied to me. Think I'll send it back as I fear that it will also not play nicely with my Sky Q box

So the factory reset worked! Brilliant - even the Sky Q box connected. You can hear a 'but' here! Wouldn't connect to my Alexa devices. Said it couldn't connect to a public network....?
I shall start a new topic as this one is now fixed - very many thanks for the help
the public/private network is set normally in windows nothing to do with hub
It might be worth factory resetting your Alexa devices and try connecting them again to your Smarthub.
I had a lot of faffing about getting the danged things to connect with my HH5 - I really don't want to go on a voyage of discovery again with Alexa. I'll see what comes up from my question, but thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep it in mind.
