Morning all,
I have asked before about our fibre cabinet. We are over 2km away from ours and our speeds are nowhere near the governments suggested 24 Mps. After the usual kerfuffle on our local Facebook group and speaking to neighbours, it does seem to be a generalised problem in our area. One or two people run businesses from home and download serious business files too, with the inevitable problems. I did a search and found where our cabinet is located. All the postcodes in the ME2 area on the attached link are affected. Although I have been told firmly before on here that OpenReach won't move cabinets just to increase speed, is there nothing we can do? Lobby local council? Cry a river? Stamp feet?

Thanks all.

Solved! Go to Solution.
Speed drops off very rapidly with distance with VDSL as you can see from the graph. I'm afraid there is nothing anybody here can do as this is a BT Retail forum and the problem lies with Openreach.
Bummer. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Thanks for the graph, which I will circulate to those affected and which corresponds to my own experience. I'll try to get them enthused about an approach to OpenReach.
Cheers

maybe better going to Kent Council https://www.kent.gov.uk/leisure-and-community/broadband
Done. Fingers crossed.
Thaks for this again. I contacted KCC who tell me that some time ago they "had identified that a solution could be reached by building a new cabinet closer to your addresses and effectively reducing the line length to allow you to receive superfast fibre speeds. With this in mind, we built the cabinet Snodland 19 which is the cabinet you originally mentioned in your enquiry that is around 400m away from your house". They believed my addresses "to be covered by this structure".
They have been in touch with OpenReach who are committed to resolving the issue. So potential good news, thanks to your tip and I'm sure we are on our way to getting this resolved. I won't be holding my breath, though!
