Broadband Speed Lies??

My guaranteed BT speed is 50. When I ask BT to check my speed it is 50. Why is it that other speed checkers put the speed between 28 and 33? How can you prove any of it?

Download a large file of known size, time how long it takes and do the maths. Simples.

Post the stats from your router and also btspeedtester diagnostic results or speedtest.net

remember the speeds quoted by BT are connection speeds not download speeds. No ISP guarantees download speeds 

speedtests must be done wired not wireless

I can appreciate how confusing different speed tester results can be but if you can provide the information requested by @imjolly I’m sure we’ll be able to clear things up for you.

I did obtain these results wirelessly but the marked difference is still there.

you need to use a wired connection otherwise the problem could simply be your poor wifi conenction in your home due to home interference which is customer problem to sort out
