Broadband booster engineer?

So I've got a broadband booster engineer booked for tomorrow and I've never really heard about them or what they do. Is it likely they will be able to lift my low speeds? And can someone give me a quick rundown of how they're different from a standard openreach engineer that I've had out already?

I had one here for 5 hours last month - really professional.  My speed when he left was 65Mbs download - then I went on holiday for a week.  When I came back the speed was up to 74 for a day, then reverted to 64.  He had changed almost every element in the line back to the exchange.  The BT tester still says this could be improved but hard to see how.  Our green box is outside my house.

Ok, so i've delay in responding due to being ill this last week, but I had the engineer out this time last week. Speeds before, 20-23 down and between 0.5-2 upload. He's arrived and told me that BT have seemingly way overestimated my line and the Clean line of 32-46 down that i was predicted is crazy for a house of my distance from the cabinet. So, OK it looks as if my speeds are what they are. He leaves having got them just under the 27 I'm guaranteed. Cool. I can deal with that. Now, only a week later I'm already back down to the low 20s and my ping has gone up about 15-20 (I do a lot of gaming so this is pretty big for me). Not really sure why my speeds keep dropping back down, and how can BT have overestimated my line by such a degree. I asked him but he didn't really have an answer. Anyone shed some light on any of this??

I've asked why BT have overestimated the speeds capable on my line. Why do I need to do a quiet line test or post router stats for the hundredth time. I've done all this on various threads and no issue has been sorted. I'm asking a general question. If you really need me to do this to answer the question then I'll get them. Not really sure why you'd need them but please say rather than expect me to assume you'd need them to answer a question.

One answer might be that BT don't provide the network to which you are connected. That is Openreach - they estimate what they can provide. 

Another would be that people are suggesting that your connection might be impaired in one of the many ways that are possible.  For example, my nearby cabinet is said to provide speeds up to 80. I've had 74 the day after the boost engineer came but it quickly subsided to a very stable 64.5 - which is enough. I am convinced it will run faster, if only we could find the constraining component but given how improbable the whole technology is, I am now content to leave it alone.

When we had 28.8k dialup, I was desperate to get the fast version= 33.6k but in reality it made no difference.  Having speeds 2000 times faster just seems unbeliveable.
