Broadband download speed dropped from 72 to 10!

It's been about 3 weeks now since I've had decent Broadband download speed.  It's dropped from a fairly steady 72 down to 10. Upload speed is still normal at around 20mbps.  Can you help, please?

Thanks!

Paul

Re: Broadband download speed dropped from 72 to 10!

Hi Pakelly,

Thanks for posting and welcome!

Sorry you're having problems with your broadband speed.  Are you using a wired or wireless connection?  For an accurate result, use a wired connection and test your speed here

Let me know how you get on..

All the best,

Robbie

Re: Broadband download speed dropped from 72 to 10!

Hi Robbie,

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I ran the test twice wired in and as outlined and came up with far better results: 65.32 for download, 16.13 upload and 22.38 ping latency.  So, what does this mean and what do I do now?  Why is the wi-fi so slow?

Thanks!

Paul

If you only have poor wireless speeds there are a few things that you can try.

Make sure that the wireless drivers on your network card are up to date. Use the card manufacturers website rather than Windows which can be out of date.

Turn off "smart set up" on the Homehub, see link

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44328/~/switching-smart-setup-on-and-off-on-the-bt-ho...

Turn off "smart wireless"  and give the Homehub a fixed channel. Download a Wifi Analyser app for you smartphone if you have one or use the free version of inSSider from forum member Keith Beddoe's website here

http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/software/insidder.zip

It will show you the wireless channels and which one your Homehub is on. You want to find the channel with the least congestion, ie. least number of users. Once you have that you need to change your homehub onto that channel. This will turn off "smart wireless"

See link how to change channel on homehub

Re: Broadband download speed dropped from 72 to 10!

The forum community should be able to help here.

There is some additional help here.

http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/index1.html

Most older wireless cards do not support the higher wireless speeds that can be achieved with an Infinity connection.

Even if you have the correct wireless cards, you still need a reasonably strong wireless signal, without any interference.

If you can post details of what computer/laptop you are using, you should be able to get some suggestions.
