Broadband issue/downstream speed.

Hi there

I've been using BT broadband for a few months now. I am on the unlimited package (i.e. up to 20mb download speed). When I first got this package my speeds were pretty erratic, usually starting off at around 3mb download and rising up to about 10-13mb ish following a couple of router resets / restarts. However more recently (i.e. the last week or so) the broadband download speed has decided to stay put at between 2-3 mb.

Here is an example of my speedtest history:

I have tried multiple router restarts and resets and this has done nothing to improve things by any significant margin. In fact from reading around it I now realise I may have caused more damage by doing this as I have likely raised my SN margin by a significant amount which is now hovering around 30db for my downstream:

DSL Connection

Do I now have to wait for my SN margin to take 2 weeks to reset? Or is there anything I can do to fix this at my end (already having made sure the router is plugged into primary phone socket, moved away from electrical equipment etc).

I know my line is capable of over 10mb as it has been at that speed before, and realise that "up to 20mb" does not mean I will get 20mb... due to distance from exchange, etc.  However I feel that close to a 90% discrepancy is a bit much...

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated!

Re: Broadband issue/downstream speed.

hi can you please post the connection time and connection speed from your hub as they are missing from your post and also a full BT speed test http://speedtester.bt.com/

Re: Broadband issue/downstream speed.

You should be getting 24 mb with your attenuation figures.

Because of your constant disconnections and restarts, your noise margin has risen to 30db and you have been put in a low banded profile.

If you leave it totally alone for 3-5 days, the speed should improve, step by step.

You must leave it powered on and no manual resets.

Re: Broadband issue/downstream speed.

Keith the attenuation is 25 (opposite way to normal) so I would expect about 18mb not 24mb - still really good though

How odd, I did not see that, thanks Smiley Wink
