Broadband never been above 2Mbps

I moved house from Sussex to Wales in March. In Sussex I  had a really long local loop but when all the dodgy connections had been found, I usually got 3800-3900 downlink and 800 uplink.

So... I know what's possible on long lines with modern equipment.

I was sold bt+ when we moved and the promise of fibre and much faster speeds... Hah !

The smart hub has NEVER connected faster than 2Mbps/800k and its a good week if it doesnt drop out 3 or 4 times.

In summary, I have a very poor connection and I've been sold better than I had in Sussex, so I'm a very unhappy customer.

Can someone please expain why this is ?

Re: Broadband never been above 2Mbps

Its because you are trying to compare apples with oranges. ADSL fed from the exchange has a much longer reach than VDSL (FTTC) fed from the cabinet.

Can you enter your phone number in the checker https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ and post results, delete phone number from screenshot before posting.

this graph gives some idea of loss of speed over distance

Re: Broadband never been above 2Mbps

You should be getting betterthan you are. Can you post the hub stats when connected to the test socket behind the removable faceplate of the master socket with a new filter.

Re: Broadband never been above 2Mbps

Hah ! Master socket with removable faceplate ! Its very last-century here 😞 When I complained there wasnt a master socket with integral filter I got no joy so I'm running with one filter and just the one phone and answer m/c off it and a cable across a hallway ceiling to the router and pc.
When you say 'hub stats'... I'm a long way from impressed with the last-century webpages of the 'smart' hubs - not found any useful stats yet (used to use a netgear router)

The line stats are very useful.  Advanced settings > Technical Log > Information

Re: Broadband never been above 2Mbps

Hmm, with those noise margins and that attenuation its not auto-speed adjusting (ignore that its only been up 6 hours as its been this speed for 10 weeks) so it must be capped at the exchange... but no support tech has commented on that.
My line in sussex was 60.5/38dB attenuation and 2.9/5.8dB noise to deliver 3924/801kbps.

Re: Broadband never been above 2Mbps

I think you could be losing a couple of Mb due to the extention you are using for the hub. Your max would only be 6Mb on a fine day with a following wind.

Re: Broadband never been above 2Mbps

UYou need to forget your previous connection as this connection is totally different. You are really a very long way from from the street cabinet and your connection speed is almost at attainable with noise margin about normal. Your connection is not capped.  You may be able to get another 2/3mb connection speed using the test socket as suggested by @

I would downgrade from superfast 2 as you will not get speed anywhere near that
