Re: Broadband speed 0.1 -0.2mb/s

I supose I was just foolishly optimistic thinking that this might get a get a better response than sitting on the phone to india!  No offence to everyone who has replied, but I'm actually no further forward.

Can anyone answer the question of whether BT throttle back your BB if you are downloading large files or why my router should show all blue lights yet not provide an internt connection by cable or wireless?

Re: Broadband speed 0.1 -0.2mb/s

BT do not throttle your download speed if you download large files.  you need to be patient until mods contact you and this is a far better alternative than contacting India.

BT do not throttle there services the mods are only a small team of UK based specialists who answer each email received in turn

Re: Broadband speed 0.1 -0.2mb/s

Hi Devondan

I can confirm from experience that an intermittent disconnection on the copper circuit or other factors like damp in the cable, can cause the speed to drop for a few days. The exchange equipment should try to increase the speed to a point where it detects errors and then settles on a compromise value. But if your line keeps dropping out it might never recover.

My fault was a dry joint on the circuit board in the wall socket (caused by pushing a filing cabinet up against the phone plug) and the speed dropped to about 30Kbps for over a week. Two minutes with a soldering iron and the speed was back up to normal in under three days. The provider gave web access to the line noise conditions and I could see it creeping back up. FYI a BT line test did not find this intermittent fault, I did.

By the way, if you don't get a reasonably quick response on here, try @BTCare on Twitter. They seem to be able to help everyone quite quickly; can't think why...

Tip: Even if you are in a rural location, if you have a close neighbour subscribed to BT Fon, see if you can pick up a free Fon/Wi-fi connection. I get 512Kbps when I need it and it really is unlimited. Come back if you need more help with that.

Good luck.

Re: Broadband speed 0.1 -0.2mb/s

Excuse my frustration here, but I thought I had to contact them after I had 3 days of stable broadband, something that doesnt seem achievable, If I should have contacted them before I would have done had I known!, now I have to wait another 3 days? Deep Joy.

Re: Broadband speed 0.1 -0.2mb/s

normally you would wait for your connection to show a stable connection of 3+ days but from your posts you are not going to get that so mod help is required
