Hi , new poster,
I would appreciate some help if possible
Im on an 8Mb line in a village, during day speeds are ok but evenings it hovers around 0.5-1Mb, problem is acknowledged by BT from uploaded speed tests and their own investigation and have concluded congestion/contention issues but say they wont do anything and cant give any info/timescale on fibre upgrade despite some of the village being on fibre.... these evening speeds are less than we got 10 years ago !!! (they were unsure as to whether my line is a cabinet or exchange one)
Conflicting info on what is min acceptable
1) Wholesale speedtest says 0.6 is acceptable for my line
2) BT website seems to say 1.5Mb
3) another BT Bulletin in conjunction with Ofcom seems to say fastest speed acheivable by bottom 10% of similar line customers in that area
To my mind some fibre to the village should alleviate the pressure on remaining Copper
However more and more people with smart phones /on demand etc
Have I got a leg to stand on as regards asking for better speed, who can I speak to get meaningful info as regards local fibre upgrading, many thanks

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
enter your phone number and post results remember delete number https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem
sorry getting the hang of this couldnt post in same dialogue box
router is in test socket
line test 17070 is silent
will post router info shortly
From the dslchecker results there is no cab number which suggests you are EO - exchnage only hence why no fibre available
You need to run the diagnostic test that follows the first test as that is only test that will show your profile
We really need to see the IP profile and actual download speed achieved from the second test, as first test does not show if you are suffering any congestion issue. If you are getting a congestion issue, then performing the second test will record the result on BT Wholesale's servers, who are the only people who can solve congestion issues.
As @imjolly said, you are on an EO line, but based on the estimate of ADSL Max, you are likely to benefit if Openreach/a contractor places a PCP outside the exchange and includes a fibre DSLAM.
