Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

sorry john 46 you are very wrong you say my disconnection was 13 hours ago  ha ha ha

it disconnects every couple of mins if im lucky.

and yes it does say 24/7 support. and my connection is supposed to be 20mb not 8.

i have never ever had anything better than 350kbs download at all, i dont care what the figures might show.

i cannot download a 1mb file in less that 3 minutes, it just dont happen.

i had an engineer here once telling me i was getting 5mb, i said ok then lets see it download a file.

when he started a download he changed his mind and told me it would be sorted out at the exchange and be ok tommorow.

That was about a year ago.

But why the disconnection every few mins ? i cant download much with this can i .

and i dont pay for a **bleep** service, my friend can sit in this room with his laptop and a crappy dongle and get faster speeds than me on a decent pc.

His provider is not supposed to be anywhere near as fast as this.

and his dont disconnect

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

Well ive been totaly conned by bt.

I pay for bt total broadband option 2 upto 20mb and 40gig allowance.

upto 20mb  ha ha ha .

moderators tell me im not on a 20mb connection, that is adsl2, they say im on upto 8mb connection.

there is nowhere on any bt sales site about upto8mb connection for bt total broadband option 2.

option 2 is for upto 20mb connection and 40 gig allwance.

Bt are commiting fraud, they are advertising and charging for something that is totaly impossible to get.

My internet connection is for max of 8m, yet i get charges the 20mb rate, as they cannot connect me to that unless i pay even more money to them.

can anyone please tell me where it says that you have to pay extra to be able to get upto 20mb connection for Bt total broadband option 2. i am on the understanding that this should be what im getting by having the bt total broadband option 2 anyway.

I have contacted someone in a legal department who is looking into this, and will give me advice on what route to go down.

I do hate being lied to, and realy dont like paying for something i cannot possibly be getting.

Has anyone else been charged for this type of service ?

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

yes it does say 24/7 support. (Yes by that it means 24/7 Tech phone support not a gurarnteed 24/7 conenction)

and my connection is supposed to be 20mb not 8.

(Its a Up to 20Mb service depending on your line length and quality)

i have never ever had anything better than 350kbs download at all, i dont care what the figures might show.

(When do you try or do your downlaoding, what time of day?)

option 2 is for upto 20mb connection and 40 gig allwance.

(By this they prob mean your line is only able to support up to 8MB throughput, no one gets the advertised 20Mb unless they live next to the phone exchange)

Can you check to see your line capabilities here and post the results (Type in the info once it loads up go to the BT adsl tab and post whats there) As this will say what speed your line can support up to, Incorperating the line distance etc. you can then work out from there what the best route is to take 😉

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

Is this what you mean...

BT ADSL broadband availability

You are connected to the Slough Langley telephone exchange.

  • ADSL is available in your area
  • Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
  • Your exchange should have ADSL2+ services installed by the 31st of March 2011

According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support

up to 2Mbps via ADSL
6.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max
8Mbps or greater via ADSL2+

Standard ADSL RAG results

  • You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
  • You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
  • You can receive 512kbps ADSL
  • You can receive 256kbps ADSL

However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

Yep my theory is correct 😛

according to that you can recieve a maximum of 8MB Via ADSL2+ (If Your connected via that by BT, also Known 21CN WBC) Otherwise its a max of 6.5 via ADSL max or a measly 2mb via old ADSL 😕

So when they said what they said to you, you have misunderstood what they have said 😛

You may be paying for up to 20MB but the most your going to see ithrough that line is 8MB if your lucky. 😉

Also your putting down the Fibre by BT I wouldnt if i was you as it actually works (How it Should). We went from a 0.7MB adsl2+ line (long line) to 37Mb with infinity (FTTC) See below 😉 (better Upload too) 😄

I think you can see for your self by that (Yep its on the same phone line same house) It should make a difference for you 😉

Most people are crying out for infinity (FTTC) as they dont have it in their area yet and are stuck on sub 2mb conenctions. So if your complaning about slow speeds I would advise you look into it.

For the disconnection issue it could be a faulty HH2 or a faulty line. Your best to contact the forum mods about that if you dont want to phone support again. (as the mods actually do something) 😛

Hope this helps 😉

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

yeah well ive been told by one of the mods on here that i am on adsl1  not adsl 2. he has confirmed in several emails that im only on adsl1 and if i want adsl 2 then i would have to pay even more money and new contract, then i could have "upto" 20mb.

Now that is completely different to how the package is sold to people.

It does not state anywhere that you would have to pay even more money to get the connection to allow the "upto 20mb" connection.

why does my bill say option 2 upto 20mb, when it cannot possibly be that due to me not possibly getting that.

why am i not already on adsl2 if that is what it takes to get the 20mb connection.  there is no sale package that mentions adsl2 on any of the bt adverts ive come across.

This is like buying a jaguar that says capable of 150mph, then opening the bonnet and finding a 1.6 escort diesel engine that couldnt do 150mph even if dropped from an aeroplane.

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

After looking at the exchange yep your on adsl1, As your exchange is not 21CN WBC enabled. So even paying more wouldnt make any difference as the infastructure isnt in the exchange to do it in the first place 😛

However FTTC is enabled (Infinity) So i would look into that if i was you if your after faster interwebs 😉 (BTW I have edited and added some more info into the previous post you may want to look at)

Hope this helps 😉

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

I did contact the mods on this subject, this is how i found out im on the old adsl connection.

It was a mod from here who said he could upgrade me to adsl2 for extra money and new contract.

Now on the test ive done tonight, i cant get adsl 2 untill march, so again something wrong there.

I do often get the infinity sales people trying to tempt me, but what they dont seem to grasp is that its not in my road yet.

there is no fibre optic in my road, and no plans have yet been put in to dig up the paths and put the fibre in.

Now one of my relatives works for bt, putting in fibre optics in the surrounding are, he knows where it is and where it isnt, i think he knows a fair bit morethan the sales team on this subject.

I had virgin sales people telling me i could have their fibre optic, got fed up with telling them the same thing about no fibre in our road.

eventually i got one of their very eager sales people round, i said i would sugn up if he could show me where the fibre optic cabinets were.

He left after talking on his mobile to virgin engineers for about 20 minutes, the result was, NO FIBRE OPTIC CABLE IN MY ROAD, and no plans for it.

tonight once again i cannot do the bt speed test due to connection not fast enough and breaking down, but moderators try telling me my connection isnt breaking down.

One said my connection was connected for 13 hours,  funny that being as i disconnected it,took plug out of wall for 7 hours. and then tried again, and again  and guess what, it disconnected after 23 minutes.

If i want to say download a 15mb file from youtube, im looking at about 20 minutes, now that is slow , but its about average if i can stay connected for that long, not very often.

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

Ahh seems like your stumped in a sence then. No Fibre via BT Or Virgin, No ADSL2+ in the exchange Via BT. Only ADSL MAX.

Doesnt look good im afraid upgrading wise, Unless you change ISP to a LLU operator as they use ADSL2+ Technology

Theres A Few At your Exchange Enables See the LLU List 😉 Click

Hope This Helps 😉

Re: Bt broadband is a joke, how can they call it broadband when my old dial up was better

I agree with you that even if i payed more money i couldnt get what isnt there, but you try telling that to someone who is trying to get me to give more money and get new contract.

It would just be another scam from bt.

Its funny though as when i last managed to get someone at bt who seemed to be able to understand that i was going to cancel my contract, the speed and the disconnection seemed to be ok for the nex 3 days, not fast but a lot better than i normally get, and no disconnection for those 3 days, then all goes wonkey again..

to get infinity, you have to have fibre optic, now being as we dont have the fibre in our street, again its impossible.

our phone lines are over 30 years old.  real hi tec stuff in the is road ha ha ha
