Re: Bt infinity 2 up/download not reaching guaranteed speeds

I notice you haven't posted any speed test results showing the problem.

Can you run the speedtest at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/speedtest2.html and post the results graph or a link to the results please?

Re: Bt infinity 2 up/download not reaching guaranteed speeds

Practical purpose difference between maximum of 63 and 68-80.... Yes. Speed of large file transfers downloaded for work purposes.

From your comment lic, I am presuming that you are suggesting there is no problem and that I should suck it up and accept my line is slower than sold to as? That is the point of my query.

Verbal confirmation was given over phone to which records have been kept. The question to bt was very succinct. What is the guanteed download I will be getting. Answer, 68. So the lowest I will be getting is 68 and it will be fluctuating between 68-80. Answer, yes. As in first post, this was asked to two separate operators and the bt engineer that installed line. If I was quoted with download maximum of 65, then there would not have been this post...

I do understand factors can cause fluctuation of speed and that the estimate of 69.9 is just that, an estimate.

Not wanting an argument, just a solution if any to a question.

Thank you gg for your advise.

Ok, so assuming that you are getting 8Mb/s slower than expected, and you are downloading a 1Gb file. That will take about 16 seconds longer (if my maths is correct), assuming the server can send at that speed in the first place.

Unfortunately copper cables are restrained by the laws of physics, crosstalk can have a large impact on speed as well as other forms of interference, even temperature has a slight effect.

That looks like an excellent result, and you're getting 65.46Mbps down and 18.57Mbps up.

Re: Bt infinity 2 up/download not reaching guaranteed speeds

Thanks for the advise lic. If only file sizes were that small. lets say around 60Gb file sizes for Post Production workflows. All adds up. But thanks

Re: Bt infinity 2 up/download not reaching guaranteed speeds

Thanks Ray.

So you guys don't think I should be quibbling on the guanteed minimum quoted by BT then? And there is nothing wrong with my line?

Re: Bt infinity 2 up/download not reaching guaranteed speeds

Unfortunately, the BT T&C's don't allow business use on a Residential connection.

Now I understand! Not sure domestic broadband is the best medium for 60Gb files, but leased line or FTTP is horrendously expensive.
