Bt infinity gaming

Go to solution

I'm currently on Virgin media 60mbs and I have had constant lag over thet last 6 months. This is mainly on the xbox 360 playing games such as fifa 13 and COD Black ops. Please could you say what your gaming is like on BT as I'm thinking of switching

Re: Bt infinity gaming

Fifa 13 and other EA games have also been reported to have bad lag on BT Infinity. It would appear to be a problem with EA but they say its a problem with BT but from what you are saying then my money is on EA servers so I would not bank on it being any better on BT Infinity. Do a search of the forum to see what others say.

Re: Bt infinity gaming

I was concerned when I moved to infinity, as I am an avid gamer. Everything has been excellent so far.

COD BO2, Battlefield 3 and Killzone all run extremely well. No complaints at all. I have had a few broadband suppliers all with their own issues regarding gaming. Infinity for me has easily been the best.

Re: Bt infinity gaming

jdenson97 I have just left VM 60Mb/s and now on BT Infinity 2. The gaming experience is good Ping 25ms 73Mb/s Download AND 15Mb/s Upload no traffic management whatsoever. VM service deteriorated so much that pings were often in excess of 150 causing considerable lag and occasionally so bad as to be kicked off xbox server. Speeds were often under 1Mb/s my mobile phone is faster than that. Do a speedtest eg speedtest dot net. Due to a hopelessly overloaded network I'll bet you get nowhere near half your 60 connection speed for most of the day and possibly far worse. I would recommend BT if you can get Infinity 2 or faster in your area.

These are the results of Ultima Online Trace Utility to easo.ea.com using BT infinity 2. Compare them to your own results using VM.

Theoldchap,

Looking at your trace report, you have a lot of packet lose.

Re: Bt infinity gaming

There is a lot of packet loss showing in this test. But despite this the gaming experience is still good even on fast paced games. I dont know how to interpret the results but my housemate tells me to ignore the 0% and 100% numbers, then with anything above 2% being bad news. I did the test mainly for the benefit of Jdenson97 to see how the same test compares using VM. I am aware that gamers are pointing at ea servers being at fault, if this is the case then changing ISP would not help. In my own personal recent experience BT is providing a far superior broadband service in every way compared to Virginmedia. VMs service being let down by a serious under investment in infrastructure.

Re: Bt infinity gaming

I agree with you Theoldchap,in fact I left VM nearly 2 years ago to join BT because I ran racing servers and my clients were getting very bad pings due to over subscribing etc by VM.

Am have high ping rates with BT, but nothing as bad as I got with VM.

In fact I would like to give VM another try at this time as you can see from my other posts, but after your posts here I don`t think it would be a wise move.

To sum up BT Infinity is better for gaming as long as you don`t fall into the DLM trap lile I have.

with this level of packet loss and ping speed Fifa13 plays fine. I hope this helps with your decision on whether to stay with VM or try BT.

Re: Bt infinity gaming

Thanks for your input ironman.

VM refers to their problem as over utilisation ie customers over using their service, they dont refer to it as lack of hardware cabling and investment. I put up with it for 6months then switched to BT. So far I am very pleased, I am aware of the problem you mention through this forum and hope I don't become a victim.
