Re: Call Protect blacklist now full...

Hi, I manage my mother's landline and I've just experienced this same problem.  How come there is such a low limit (100) on the numbers you can block when there are so many nuisance callers?  Changing the type of phone is not necessarily an option when you are dealing with someone who has dementia and is partially sighted.

How about a "Call Blocker" same principle as the phone but it goes between the phone and the line.

Without being too personal, I have a relative who has dementia so I do understand, is it about them learning to use the new phone (if you swapped it over) ?

Re: Call Protect blacklist now full...

Hi

I've tried ringing some of these numbers back and always receive a message 'this number does not accept calls!'

Yes we are registered for TPS

Had the same phone number for many years and never been a business.

Seems like we are on a list being passed around, fed up with it really.

Probably your local council they are the worst offenders in selling off the data. I always make sure I’m hidden in the electoral roll, if you google electoral roll you will see on option to “opt out of the open register” to make sure they do not sell your details on.

Re: Call Protect blacklist now full...

@CJT80Thanks for suggestion of call blocker but no go I'm afraid.  The risk of the wrong numbers being blocked when you have to manage remotely are not welcome.  As for 'learning to use a new phone' - Lol! You've not met my mother have you?  Aside from having dementia and being partially sighted, she is the world's worst technophobe - as far as she is concerned the phone only answers when you pick it up and she can't use the answer/end call buttons.

Cannot see why the limit cannot be raised.

Re: Call Protect blacklist now full...

@Carefree

oh no I fully understand... my Mum has a mobile phone (not that she uses it!)

My Dad has been prone to telling callers (who are obv scammers) to "get lost" but in a more profound way...

I agree it that the limit should be increased, and frankly they could (if the techology is available) monitor (via a reporting system) which numbers are block by multiple customers, and then block them at network level...

If (in the future) the number is used legitimately (it gets assigned to a user) it could be unblocked.

Also while we at it, UK companies need to be fined more and more often for silent and spam calls!

Re: Call Protect blacklist now full...

It would be interesting to know if others who have replied here have the same experience as me.

We've had the same number for 30+ years, and have always had the occasional cold call (maybe once a fortnight on average) despite being registered with the TPS.

However, the last 18 months has been an avalanche of cold calls, with the vast majority being from Asian gentlemen called "Eric", "Charles", "David", "Derek" etc. - yeah right, and I'm the King of Sweden! - from a variety of companies, with the latest incarnation being "Excellent Life". They really are relentless, which is why I turned to Call Protect. Well, at least it helped for a while ...

It seems to me that some website or database has been compromised or the data sold on, and as things stand at the moment, there is nothing we can do about it.

As I said previously, when I contacted BT, they advised me to contact BT Security Team. Guess what their advice was? To register with the TPS! Well, duh, thanks for nothing. Sometimes the comedy just writes itself - but I'm not laughing.

IMHO the TPS is a total waste of time.

Re: Call Protect blacklist now full...

Weekly update

10 unwanted calls this week, 3 from Canada, 1 from USA.  With ALL international call blocked.

Even had a call from a distraught lady who's number had been used in Scotland 200 times to make unwanted calls she new nothing about!!  How can people use someone else's number.

Total to date 480 unwanted call sent to JUNK

100 numbers on personal blacklist

Not getting any better, in fact getting worse.
