Calls to my number going to someone else

People ringing our number are re-directed to someone else.  However I can call out from our landline and the number shown when I do (to my mobile for instance) is our number.

Since joining BT I have taken 3 and a half days off for various problems including this one and they are now requesting that I book another engineers appointment to my property.  Having spoken with an ex BT engineer, he is certain that the problem could not possibly come from within our flat and will be at the local exchange.

Is the ex-engineer correct?  Is it possible for phone calls to come all the way into our property then magically bounce all the way back out to a different number?

We had an issue with our broadband in November which was eventually (after 3 weeks) resolved at the local exchange but only after 2 weeks of intensely frustrating dealings with their call centre (who treated me like a liar, refusing to acknowledge that there was a problem as they "couldn't see it at their end"!).

I am not in a position where I can arrange to have someone at my property and refuse to take any more of my annual leave as I feel that losing 3 and a half days of my already limited annual leave is already too much, particularly when the engineers rarely show up as scheduled and when they do, they simply tell me the problem was at the local exchange.

Meanwhile BT continue to charge me while only delivering half a service at best.  I am already decided on leaving BT when my contract is up but I would like to have access to the service I am paying for in my remaining time with them.

Re: Calls to my number going to someone else

I have asked a moderator to provide assistance, they will post an invite on this thread.

They are the only BT employees on this forum, and are a UK based team of people, who take personal ownership of your problem.

Once you get a reply, make sure that you are logged into the forum, then click on their name, you will see a screen like this. Click on the link as shown below.
Please do not send them a personal message, as they cannot deal with service issues that way.

For your own security, do not post any personal details, on this forum. That includes any tracking number you are give.

They will respond either by phone or e-mail, when its your turn in the queue.
Please use the tracked e-mail, to reply, not via the forum. Thanks

This is the form you should see when you click on the link. If you do not see this form, then you have selected the wrong link.
When you submit the form, you will receive an enquiry number, so please keep a note of it

It sounds like you have a crossed line. Can you send me in your details using the "Contact The Mods" link found in my profile and I will take it from there.

Re: Calls to my number going to someone else

If incoming calls are being diverted to another number you can easily check, because the dialtone on the line on divert should be an interrupted dialtone, not a steady tone,
if the line is on divert, the divert can be cancelled by entering a code something like #21# , check on line for landline divert codes, if you dial 17070 and the number read back is your number, it will confirm you have the correct number at your property,
if you make a call say from your mobile to your landline number, where does the diverted call go to ?, is it a number you recognise, sometimes if your line is faulty, BT will offer to put your line on divert to another number, usually your mobile, for the duration of the fault so you don't miss any incoming calls, perhaps your line is on divert because of an open fault report on the line
