Also in same situation (only really watch the channels that are being removed!). Tried phoning customer services earlier but didn't really clarify anything.
It's ridiculous that our BT contract gets renewed for 24 months when you change *any* part of the package (broadband/TV/phone) - it unfairly locks you in to a product you might not want to keep.
If we stay on the current package (with the removed channels) then contract start date stays the same but we are paying for a smaller package at the same price we were paying before.
If we want to *change* package because we don't want to stay on a shrunken down package (that we still pay the same money for), then it appears that the contract would then be renewed for 24 months (at no fault to ourselves).
I'm in an even worse position than you because I upgraded my broadband in December and don't want to be locked into a TV package for the next 23 months that I'm no longer happy with. I don't want to change to a 'new' product and would rather be able to cancel it and I'm minded to contact Ofcom to get their opinion.
