Unfortunately that's just not the case, I am being forced to use BT's proprietary solution. I was forced to move my phone line when signing up for the (24 month) FTTP broadband contract, and at the time, there was no mention of Digital Voice or the implications of that. I'm now left with another 12 months on my contract before I can move my phone service to another provider.
My only choice in the interim appears to be suffering at the hands of the SH2 so that I have some sort of functional land line, or buying another VOIP service and forwarding my landline number to that, effectively paying twice for my landline.
