Can I keep and use my disc if downgrading from complete WiFi?

I'm currently coming to the end of a contract for Fibre with BT Halo 1 and Complete WiFi.

I was on a good deal which is unfortunately a lot more expensive to renew and money is tight.

The smartHub2 and disc really sorted out my connection problems so I don't want to go back to unreliable wifi. However if I downgrade to BT fibre 2 (same speed as current), I'll save £30/month but my question is can I keep the smart hub and disc?

Small print says you need to return the disc in 30 days or you'll be charged £30. But even with paying the &30, it'll still save me money as long as I can still use it. Any advice on pitfalls of doing this?  Many thanks

If you are happy to pay the £30 you can keep it and use it.

When my renewal came up 3 months ago I was told that it was not possible to downgrade from Halo 1. I did not push very hard so do not know how true that is.

Re: Can I keep and use my disc if downgrading from complete WiFi?

Hi, Im new to BT and will need at least 2 and probably 3 of these discs as I have a big house.

Reading around I seem to have a few choices,

1. Sign up to BY complete wifi and get up to three discs for £10 a month and return them at the end of contract (£240 min)

2. Buy BT discs of eBay for around £50 each (£150)

3. Sign up for by complete Wifi for 1 month then cancel and keep the discs and pay BT the £30 fee x3 (£100).

Have I got this right?

@bluebaron1

I think you will find that the complete Wifi is a new contract, and will be 12 or 18 months. The £30 only applies if you do not return the discs at the end of the contract.

There are alternatives.

https://shop.bt.com/learnmore/bt-branded-products-and-services/bt-whole-home-wi-fi/

These will work with any router and any ISP.

Or https://www.tendacn.com/uk/product/mw3.html  That is what I use.

Warning about the ones on ebay, many people have bought the wrong ones and wasted their money. You also need the Smart Hub 2 for the black ones to work.

24 month term for broadband, BT TV and BT Sport promotions.
12/18 month terms available on BT mobile simo plans.

Re: Can I keep and use my disc if downgrading from complete WiFi?

ok well I have a new 24 month broadband contract and they've supplied me with a smart hub 2.

I'll get them a call later this week when my WIFI goes live and I can check the signal.

Im not sure if adding BT complete to my package will tie me in for 24 months or whether its only the main package i'm tied into, the website isn't clear on this.

Alternatively, as suggested ill look into other mesh systems.

It will renew the contract for 24 months, any change of package or promotion comes with a new minimum term.

It thats the case then the i'm only renting the Discs at a cost of £240+ (minimum term)  when I would rather own them.  Alternative systems seem a much better financial option in the longer term.
