Can I use the ethernet ports in my flat?

I'm in a new build flat, we have ethernet ports in every room and currently have working fttp infinity broadband.

From the following photo you can see the setup:

From this image you can see we have an ethernet port. As do all rooms in the house... I just don't know how to use them?

Say I wanted to be able to plug my laptop in using an ethernet port in another room what would I need to do?

I've tried plugging an ethernet cable from the router into the port next to my router, I've then plugged an ethernet cable from the port in the lounge into my laptop but I don't get anything.

There is no switch in the property.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Re: Can I use the ethernet ports in my flat?

There has to be an Ethernet switch, with each port connected to a single outlet. There should be a common point where all the Ethernet cables end and are left unterminated. You may find them coiled up behing one of the taceplates, probably the one nearest to your phone line.

An Ethernet switch would need a power supply.

Surely there is a patch panel/cabinet somewhere? check in the storage room, must be somewhere.

Not sure how they cable these new flats. But it would look like this only smaller.
