Thanks for your comments. When I try to add the account I get the incorrect password message. When I close this I see a screen with IMAP highlighted at the top. Host Incoming mail server is mail.btinternet.com as is the outgoing mail server. My email address shows on both incoming and outgoing with my password showing as dots.
i can see no port numbers or anything else.
Ok, stop the IOS mail app to prevent it accessing the server. Change your email password again, this time wait at least one hour to give the servers chance to sync and then attempt to connect with IOS mail with the new password.
Exactly the point. You change the password on the server using webmail, changing in IOS doesn't change it on the server, give the password an hour for the various BT servers to sync (the IOS app will be accessing a different physical machine to webmail) and then access the server with the new password with IOS mail.
I've changed passwords more times than I can count, and given plenty of time "for the servers to sync". I suspect they botched the migration and the mailbox password is not being reset with the bt account password. They tried to fob me off with "it must be an Apple issue" but that can't be the case because it doesn't work when using a desktop mail client or their own app. I think the only reason it works on web mail is becuase the web mail is using Single Sign on via SAML.
Youngwt was correct. Reset my password on BT via Safari this morning. At least 6 hours later, tried to add my Bt account to IOS. Password still supposedly incorrect.....
Anyone have any other ideas? Also on my wife’s issue outlined in my previous posts on this thread.
Well, I have no idea why at 7am this morning, as if by magic, I’ve been able to add my BT account on both my IPhone and IPad. That’s at least 2 days since I changed my password.
