Cannot send e-mails from 3g smart phone using my @btinternet.com address

Go to solution

I have a new Samsung 3g smartphone and have set up my (home pc) e-mail address .......@btinternet.com and can receive all incoming e-mails but cannot use my phone to reply or send any messages. I also cannot set up e-mail contacts on my phone.

The "experts" in the mob phone shop could not explain it but have tried resetting my phone twice now- they suggest BT may have some kind of block / setting stopping me- however I do receive e-mails, just cannot send- they sit in my out box but never go.

Can someone help me please

Thank you

Steve (novice)!

How have you set up the e-mail program on your phone? Is it set for IMAP or POP3?

Then I should be able to help.

Hi Keith

Sorry but i'm useless at this- i understand the difference between imap / pop3 (looked it up) but cannot tell which I am- phone was set up in shop and i cannot see in any of the menu's which it is.

Can you suggest where i look- tried settings and anywhere else obvious.

Thanks

What model number is it, and I will see what I can find out?

Its probably an authentication problem.

Right, I will take a look at the manual.

The manual is quite useless, as it doesn`t describe all the settings.

What you need to look for is "server settings" which you should be able to get to from here

››Set up an email account
1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select
Email

3 Select Next (for general email accounts) or Manual
setup (for other company email accounts).
4 Follow the on-screen instructions.

See if your BT Yahoo account appears on the list, it should do, if you are receiving mail.

One question, when you receive mail on the phone, does it disappear from you webmail inbox?

BT Yahoo does not use an Exchange server. What program do you use on your PC to receive mail?

BT Yahoo supports POP3 and IMAP for receiving, and SMTP for sending. You need to look at the SMTP server settings on your phone which is associated with your BT Internet account.

If those settings are wrong, you will not be able to send e-mails.
