Change broadband feed BT TV

Go to solution

Having got so frustrated with my FTTC speeds I have installed a 5G broadband feed to my house (10x faster). Everything is so much better except the BT TV box registers an internet fault. Seems to only like a BT broadband feed???

Is this the case? Ways around this?

@drl17

You need to be connected to your BT Broadband connection for BT TV to work. The channels are deliver using Multicast, down your BT broadband connection.

It need to se the BT TV servers, which it can only do via your BT Broadband connection, so you would have to leave it connected to it.

Thank you for that. It is such a shame they lock in like this. Their FTTC capability is so restrictive and if they are not careful the age of being tethered to a TV provider just for (antiquated) internet will be over. 5G + apps now for me.

The live channels are delivered by multicast over the Openreach network to deliver the channels in a method comparable with cable or satellite delivery. If this isn't working for you and you're watching the Sky channels live, you could watch via the NowTV app but you'd need to install it on a Roku stick, firestick or something similar

Yes that’s what I’ll do but shame about the ~30 sec delay
