Re: ouRe: Change from ADSL to ADSL2+

Hi @castlemaster,

Your connection was on ADSL Max, this was moved over to WBC (21CN) on the 19th of March. WBC (21CN) is capable of providing upto 24 Mbps with an upload speed of 1 Mbps, also known as ADSL2+.

Unfortunately your line is pretty long and not able to achieve anywhere near the 24 Mbps. The modulation is dictates by the speed your line can support. Unfortunately because your line can't support the required speeds your modulation won't change.

When you where moved to 21CN your service had a cap of up to 8Mbps downloads and 448 Kbps on the upload. I've removed the 448 Kbps cap on the upload yesterday.  You can see from the fluctuation between 448 Kbps and 600 Kbps you posted earlier.

When a connection moves from ADSL Max to 21CN it does take time to stabilise. If your connection is unstable it would be worthwhile going though the self checks and connecting to the test socket to see if this helps improve stability.

Thanks

PaddyB

Re: ouRe: Change from ADSL to ADSL2+

Hi Paddy,

Can you explain then please why both of my other lines at same premises when moved over to ADSL2+ show the mode on router stats as ADSL2plus as you can see below?

ModeADSL_2plus
Traffic TypeATM
StatusUp
Link Power StateL0

Whereas the line in question still shows

ADSL_G.dmt
Traffic TypeATM
StatusUp
Link Power State

L0

Yes, my line is long but since the weekend it has been more unstable than it ever has been, I do not accept this is simply due to the training period as again both the other lines had no issues like this when they were moved to ADSL2+, my router has been rebooted several times.

I appreciate your engineers have carried out the work, I just don't agree that this work was done correctly as is apparent by the constant problems I've had with the line since the 19th. I am already (as any self-respecting gamer would be :p) plugged into the test socket of the master socket 🙂

Re: ouRe: Change from ADSL to ADSL2+

OK I currently have no PPP traffic on the line, it's showing synched but there's no traffic, rebooted router (not the modem) and it fails to make any ppp connection again. SNR stadily dropping again I see.

Re: ouRe: Change from ADSL to ADSL2+

Hi @castlemaster,

Thank you for taking my call yesterday. I reported a fault to BT Wholesale and they've cleared the fault. I've ran a few checks on your line and it does look like the stability has improved. The current session has been active for 8 hours with no drop outs reported during that time.

I think it would be a good idea to monitor the connection for a few days. I'll follow up with you again on Saturday to see how the connection is performing.

Thanks

Paddy

Re: ouRe: Change from ADSL to ADSL2+

Hi Paddy,

SOrry to say, still not performing well, had ages with no PPP traffic today connection went down to 2snr tonight, i rebooted router to get PPP working again.

I apprecaite you say openreach have fixed the fault, but clearly they have not 😞

Hi @castlemaster Sorry that it does not appear the fault is fixed. @PaddyB is not in the office today but he will be in touch to update you tomorrow on what is happening.

Cheers
John

Re: ouRe: Change from ADSL to ADSL2+

Hi Paddy,

Just to keep you updated, the engineer came today (a great guy, Pete) who pointed out that although the wiring had been done for the change to adsl 2 there were issues.

Firstly the wiring had not been done properly so there was a HR fault at the exchange at the wiring, he fixed that and immediatley I noticed that the issues with the line disconnects and quick SNR drop were fixed, so brilliant.

Secondly he noticed that the speed from my port at the exchange was only 8MB so had not been switched on to adsl2 (24MB) from the wholesale end. HE called up someone and now it's showing adsl2plus on my router stats 🙂

So all is now well

Thanks for your help
