Solved! Go to Solution.
If the address you moved to, is not connected to the same BT exchange building as your old address, then you would not be able to get your number back.

My previous address was 1mile away so think it would be the same the same BT exchange.

That may not be the case.
One way to find out is to lookup both your old address and then your new address using this checker.
https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com
See if the exchange name is the same for both addresses.

Then if you asked to keep your number when you applied to move home, then you should have been given it.
Did you actually ask to keep your number?
If not, then you would have to ask for a renumber, there would normally be a charge. Its possible that BT may say that the number is not available. In that case, it may have to be done via one of the forum moderators.

I set up a new account in my own name and was given a new number. I did ask for previous number but was informed that when service was installed & live I could change number. Haven't been able to do this on line. Hopefully I can get this sorted . Thanks
I have asked a moderator to provide assistance, they will post an invite on this thread.
They are the only BT employees on this forum, and are based in the UK.
Please bear in mind that with the current crisis, it may take a long time for one of them to deal with your request.
Hi @Joany1 and welcome.
Thanks for posting about the renumber. I'll be happy to take a look at this for you. I've sent you a message so you can contact the moderator team. Just complete the details and we'll take it from there.
Cheers
