Could anyone help?
We have a really old TV and the youview box, which is great, can record, pause etc. If we get a smart TV, will the youview box become useless and can I cancel it at that time?
Many thanks

Hi @jeanjeanie2
what use do you make of your Youview box and your subscription services currently ?
Do you watch and/or record the Freeview channels which are those in the guide with channel numbers 1 to 299 .
Do you watch and/or record the BT Tv Subscription Channels ie those with channel numbers 300 upwards ? are any of your favourite or must have channels in this group ?
do you use the BT player ?
Do you use the BT Sport app ?
thank you for your reply, I do record freeview programmes. I rarely use the BT player. I mainly record series and pause live TV
Smart TV's typically have no storage, so you won't be able to record through it, most popular shows are available on catchup, which makes recording no longer needed.
Why not record what you normally do, then see if the same content is available on demand or catchup, you'll soon have your answers.
One option you can consider assuming you were supplied with your Youview box before December 2019 is to cease your BT TV Subscription , the box would be your property so you could keep using it for the recording and pausing of Freeview channels and using the players such as BBC iplayer, Itv Hub, all4, my5 and the others as normal. IN CEASING you would lose access to the BT subscription channels and the BT Player including any past recordings off those BT channels. Now normally you would incur cancelation charges BUT IF you have been formally notified of a price rise for your current contract then these might not be applicable. Your broadband contract and costs would continue as normal.
thank you, very grateful
