Connecting Netgear Modem router to BT FTTP

Just got BT FTTP set up with BT home hub. I want to replace this with my own Netgear D6400 Modem Router, which I have been using with Talktalk non fibre broadband for 18 months, until the swap over to BT last week. I know very little about how to do this, not even sure what the ISP Username or password is that it is requesting. I was helped to connect to Talktalk, with step by step instructions over the phone from Netgear when I bought it 18 months ago, I but don't think this is available to me now. Can anyone help please?

Re: Connecting Netgear Modem router to BT FTTP

you need to connect the ONT to the netgear WAN port (not LAN)

username is   bthomehub@btbroadband.com

password can be anything many just use BT   authentication is on the phone number

Re: Connecting Netgear Modem router to BT FTTP

Thanks for speedy reply. I have tried that username and bt as password. I'll try again using BT as password. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by 'authentication is on the phone number'

Re: Connecting Netgear Modem router to BT FTTP

the password is generic in that all bt residential customers use the same username and the real check is on your line phone number to confirm BT customer

are you connecting the ONT (modem) to the WAN port of the netgear

Re: Connecting Netgear Modem router to BT FTTP

I'm pretty sure it's the WAN port. It's just marked internet, and is coloured red, same as the WAN port on the BT hub

Re: Connecting Netgear Modem router to BT FTTP

Factory reset the router to clear out any old configuration and start again. I presume the Netgear has an auto setup wizard

Re: Connecting Netgear Modem router to BT FTTP

I've reset to factory default settings. Genie gets stuck in a loop. It can detect PPPoE DSL internet connection, so I enter username and password as suggested, but keeps coming back to entering UK and BT again. I've also tried logging in to 'routerlogin.net' which also sends me into a loop and eventually says 'www.netgear.com's server IP address could not be reached. Of course, it's taking more time, as I have to keep swapping back to the BT hub to get any internet. Any other ideas please?
