Contract ending soon, not sure what to do

Go to solution

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but my broadband/phone contract comes to an end in a few weeks and I am not sure quite what I need to do, if anything. According to MyBT I am now on Halo 1 and am currently paying £54.99 per month, which includes £5 for my very basic mobile phone package. I would like to renew my contract, but it won't let me unless I agree to go on to Halo 2 for only £3 per month more, but which I don't feel I need. I am quite happy with what I have at the moment and don't particularly want the extra services or the new hub.

My problem is that I can't seem to find out whether my monthly charge will rise once the current contract ends on 5th January if I just stick with Halo 1.  It does seem to say that Halo prices don't increase at the end of contracts (except for future rises due to inflation), so does this literally mean I go on paying £54.99 pm until the March inflation increase even if it won't let me actually renew my contract?  I am confused and reluctant to ring as I don't want to be subjected to a sales pitch for stuff I don't want. Basically, if I just want to stay on Halo 1 do I need to do anything at all?  Many thanks.

Phone BT on 0800.800.030. They should be able to help.

You tell them what you want and try and negotiate your price. They may well come down to keep you.

Hi @Catfriend,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for posting.

If you are currently on Halo 1 you get out "Our Price Promise"

"All for one great price & Our prise promise

We’ll never charge you more than a new customer, and your bill won’t go up when your contract ends.  This doesn’t include any changes as a result of annual percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate of inflation. See bt.com/prices for more information."

I hope this helps?

Thanks

Matt

Thank you so much, this is very helpful. I did actually see this but was confused because I also read something about all discounts ending when my contract ends, which would automatically increase the price.  I didn't know what to believe and was hoping that BT would have made it a bit clearer when I checked on MyBT, but it just says they are unable to give a new price, and all they want to do is to sell me Halo 2, which I don't really need. I think, in view of what you say, that I will just wait until my contract does end on Jan 4th, and if there is no price rise then I will just stay on Halo 1, but if they do try to increase the price then I will probably downgrade my Broadband at that time. Thank you again for your help.

I got that same promise about the price remaining the same except for CPR rise which is fine.  However, when I log into My BT is says my discount is ending.  The new package is much more expensive.  I want to stay as I am.  Can anyone confirm?
