Dire internet speeds -crawls always during evenings 21-24.00 and other times of day

I have read quite a few topics on the forums and hope I have included correct info. My speed is very patchy, and in the evenings especially between 9 and 12am, it slows to almost stationary. It is virtually unusable. Also during other times of day it will slow to a crawl. This is a fairly recent development, and I have been struggling with it for about 2-3 weeks.

I did the quiet line test and all was OK.  Please let me know what more information if any is required. Because I reset the username my help desk info is not extensive - is this needed (?)

Many thanks for help in advance 🙂

BT Wholesale speedtest:

Download speed - 0.41

Upload speed - 0.36

Ping Latency - 266.67

I then ran it a few minutes later:

Download speed - 0.37

Upload speed - 0.38

Ping Latency - 43.88

I tried to do further diagnostics and get the following:

Re: Dire internet speeds -crawls always during evenings 21-24.00 and other times of day

This is the Helpdesk stats- but only for 15 mins or so as this is as long as I have reset back from the speedtest@ username. Not sure why image above is squished - but if you right click on it you can go to full url to see in all it's glory.

Seems like the slow speed continues beyond 12am I just usually am not up this late!

Re: Dire internet speeds -crawls always during evenings 21-24.00 and other times of day

are you connected to the test socket with a new filter - or somewhere else?

was btspeedtester diagnostic test done with wired connection?  can you run it again and post results please

I see from the dslchecker you can upgrade to infinity with significant speed increase

Re: Dire internet speeds -crawls always during evenings 21-24.00 and other times of day

Hi, sorry for delay I have been away for a few days: I am now connected to test socket with new filter:

Download Speed: 0.45

Upload Speed: 0.31

Ping Latency (ms): 252.50

ran again as further diagnostics didn't load first time

Download 0.43

Upload 0.37

Ping 47.63

Further diagnostics:

The router is close to my computer but the wire I have does not quite reach. Internet speeds are always OK during the morning day, but then slow down in evening. They are slow at the moment of these tests.

Unfortunately although it says I can upgrade to infinity that is not correct. My neigbhours have tried - we are at the end of a mile long lane and they said infinity just doesn't offer any improvement as too far from cabinet. They then went back to copper, and I am sure it will be the same from me.

Re: Dire internet speeds -crawls always during evenings 21-24.00 and other times of day

Yes Hub4 - Thanks John - are these the "event logs" or something else, trying to find them.

Found these under "event log" "WAN" -

23:11:09, 27 Aug.

DSL Link Up: Down Rate=2592Kbps, Up Rate=448Kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.8dB, Up=11.0dB

It was the closet I could see

23:10:13, 27 Aug.

DSL Link Up: Down Rate=2592Kbps, Up Rate=448Kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.8dB, Up=9.0dB

21:14:45, 22 Aug.DSL Link Up: Down Rate=2496Kbps, Up Rate=448Kbps; SNR Margin Down=7.0dB, Up=11.0dB

12:28:39, 22 Aug.

DSL Link Up: Down Rate=3104Kbps, Up Rate=448Kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.8dB, Up=10.0dB

Nothing for today though - is this what you needed?

Re: Dire internet speeds -crawls always during evenings 21-24.00 and other times of day

yes that is fine the speedtest must be done using a wired connection BT will not accept any thing else as there are to many variables using wireless
