Re: Direct Internet Connection through BT Home HUB...

Go to solution

That does boast some pretty nice features, but in my house the walls are very thick and there are lots of black spots for the wifi and it's annoying when the connection drops, but I've been using this netgear nighthawk and I must say.. I don't have any wifi problems anymore. I'll just have to get a stand alone modem, it's actually not even a big deal, I'm still getting very responsive ping, I got 25ms with the home hub, and 19ms with the nighthawk (courtesy of speedtest.net)

How are you managing to use the Nighthawk, if you do not have a modem?

Re: Direct Internet Connection through BT Home HUB...

So the improvement is only for wireless?

You could have done that a lot cheaper and easier using a decent wireless access point plugged into the HH5 LAN.

Port forwarding and DMZ is not going to be relevant in your current setup, as you are not using the WAN port, unless you have disabled NAT on the Nighthawk.

You would have to do any port forwarding on the HH5, as that is the NAT router.

Re: Direct Internet Connection through BT Home HUB...

Wireless was a side issue, I wanted a router that can deliver customisation and performance - this does it pretty darn well. As for getting a modem, well.. I'll just order one and have it by tuesday. btw I don't skimp on expenditure when it comes to getting the best performing items, so I'm not bothered about paying 210 quid. If you think I'm worried about paying for that then you don't want to know about my next custom pc build Smiley Wink

Personally I've got a Draytek Vigor 130 coming to replace the HH5 so it'll be bridged to my Asus RT-AC87U.
