Dear bt community
hope all staying safe and well.
I have replaced my bt smart hub 6 for a nighthawkac1900 R7000 so i could have a guest network facility. having updated firmware! all seem fine.
however according to bt, to enable the bt virus protect i need to change dns settings on router. Any ideas on what those should be. I’m not convinced about using the similar software used by netgear which also has to paid for.!
I realise this maybe more of a question for a Netgear forum, but as i currently sitting on floor with a 30kg labrador on my lap, i thought i would ask it here as well.
kind regards
What BT are talking about is BT Web Protect, which only works if you use BTs DNS servers.
If your router is configured to get its DNS server settings automatically fro the BT servers, then that is all you need to do.
BT Web protect is not a virus protection, all it does is to make sure the Internet domain you are accessing, is not a known fake site.
Unless you have manually configured the DNS settings on your Netgear, you will be using the auto allocated BT DNS servers.
Thank for prompt reply.
Apologies i meant bt web protect, I have not changed any settings and try to avoid doing such things unless absolutely necessary.
it was just as the web protect is free part of the bt package, might as well use it but bt web site suggests may need to change the DNS settings.
it would appear i don’t ?
many thanks and and take care
Many thanks for swift reply, not sure who was fastest between you and Keith.
I meant bt web protect and i have not changed any settings apart from having to update firmware manually and enable the guest network.
Many thanks and take care
