Download speed now down to 14MB Ayr Exchange

Go to solution

Hi

Have had ongoing speed issues since last Aug.... HAve had Fibre TTC  in (intially with Sky) for about 4 years... speed started out 33Mb down 6/7 Up...  moved over to BT last July and speed was about 27/28 down and same Up speed... and since last Aug it has gone down to at worse 17Mb but usually levled off for a period of time around 24/25....  On checking the other day it was now down @ 14MB..... Logged a call and was told there was a problem at exchanage and to monitor but a couple of days later and speed is still the same (14MB)

Am using a BT Openreach Modem with an ASUS router (i need some more functionality that the HH 5 doesn't give me)

I'm just at a loss with BT now.. all they want me to do is monitor it but nothing chnages. Have had two engineers out previoulsy who could not find a fault but with their equipemnt reckoned i should get as a minimum 26/27.. but couldn't  tell me why I was getting it lower speeds..nothing has changed internally..apart from a newer face plate which the second engineer fitted.

I know you say nothing has changed internally but that doesn't mean wiring doesn't degrade.

Have you removed the faceplate from the master socket and connected the modem to the test socket?

can you run btspeedtester and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results  must be done with wired connection  btspeedtester

are you able to conenct to test socket with a new filter to eliminate any problems with internal wiring  can you then check that your extension sockets do not have a dial tone

can you enter your phone number and post results  remember to delete number wholesale FTTC check

try quiet line test   dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best with corded phone

unfortunately as you are using a separate modem all the normal required conenction stats are held by the modem and unless it is unlocked are not available

it could be that connecting to the test socket did come back with same connection speed but could have shown a better attainable speed and possibly a higher noise margin suggestin a better speed is possible

did you check your extensions did not ahve a dial tone when using the test socket?
