Hello,
I live in a rural area and had speeds of 4.5 megs for ten months. Since Tuesday - strong winds in the area - the speed has plummetted to 1 meg. Totally useless for anything other than simple web browsing. Do you have an advice? I have done the various diagnostics.
Thanks.
I assume the winds have caused numerous resets if the router ending up with higher noise margin and lower speed
can you post stats from your router
try quiet line test. Dial 17070 option 2 should be quiet and best done with corded phone
enter your phone number and post results remember delete number https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
Here is the info. Did a line test and it sounds quiet. Note the info says the Broadband speed is far slower than we've ever experienced. What router info do you need?
Thanks for looking into this, Mike

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage. This line is on a Market A Exchange. In order to be eligible for handback, downstream speed should be less than Downstream Handback Threshold values.
Throughput/download speeds will be less than line rates and can be affected by a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises. The Stop Sale date for Datastream is from 30-Jun-2012; the Formal Retirement date for Datastream is from 30-Jun-2014. The Stop Sale date for IPstream is from 24-Apr-2018. |

The connection time is only 6hrs is that due to manual reset or router dropping connection? It looks like a banded profile due to all the drops/ resets in connection and should recover automatically provided you have a stable connection 24/7
Manual reset. Tried a different filter, different modem, all the usual checks. It was left untouched for 24 hours. Tuesday speeds were down to 1.8 during the high winds. Then the next day 1 meg and remained the same since. BT have just moved me to Line Rental Plus - I'm guessing this is irrelevant though/a coincidence.
Thanks
Mike
Also, if it is 'banded' then how do I get BT to remove the current speed limit? Not keen on waiting 3 to 5 days. That's too long without being able to play Fifa!!!
Best
Mike
