I would like a free dynamic DNS service which my route can update, and ChangeIP seems to be the only free one that the HomeHub5 supports, but I can't manage to get the ChangeIP to connect, Just get "Dynamic DNS service status: Connection error - Unknown changeip.com error".
Any advice please?
after many falied attempts with dynamic DNS with my HomeHub set to auto update the IP, I have come up against a brick wall in terms of compatibility of the HomeHub 5 with any of the free Dynamic DNS services.
Has anyone had any success with any of the serviecs listed in the HH5?
On the changeip.com site when you click on the Free DNS you are asked for a domain name and there's a choice of
extension in a drop down menu ( you'll know this because you've done it )
In the HH the choice is [ changeip.com ] but that choice isn't available from the website menu so I'm thinking that's the reason
why it isn't working for you.
I use DYNDNS without a problem, but it's not free..
I hotlinked another posters image from the drop down, ChangeIP is in my list, but unfortunately doesn't work.
Looks like paid is the only option then 😞
Do you find Dyn worth the money?
I've used DYNDNS for years; it used to be free but just recently changed to paid.
Updates happen quickly or you can log on and manually update if you want..
You could try here if you want : -
[Reserrecting old thread as I was having this issue] Ignore this error 😉
If you log into changeip.com and go to "View Recent DDNS Updates" you should see it is actually working.
Direct url is:
You should see that the home hub sends the update URL, something like -
To the left colum should be Result 200 - this mean it's been updated.
After a number of Router reboots, I confirm it works and updates the IP at changeIP.com, but in the ddns settings you get the error
"Dynamic DNS service status: Connection error - Unknown changeip.com error"
If you visit the full update url in a browser and change IP e.g. 184.108.40.206...etc"
You see you get a return page
It seems BT home hub doesn't quite know how to interpret this so gives the error, even though it has been successful (i.e. nochg might seem to mean no change, even though it's just been changed!).
