Email on phone & Outlook not working today?

Since 4pm today my emails haven't downloaded to my phone (iphone) or laptop email client Outlook, however I can still get to BT webmail fine and all my other email accounts are fine. This has been the same on 2 different wifi networks and my phone also on 4G.

The error message says 'mail server not responding'.

Nobody else seems to have reported the same problem on here or on Twitter - is it just me?

If you can access your email via webmail there is obviously nothing wrong with your password so you should NOT change it. I would also NOT delete any accounts and re-install them.

If it has happened without you having done anything such as an update or password change you should just wait it out and it will probably resolve its self in a day or two.

I havent been able to receive email to outlook for a week. Posted on here but have had no response.

Same here. Cannot collect by Outlook POP, webmail fine so not a password issue.

There are now also a few people on Twitter with the same issue. I asked BT on there if there was a known problem, predictably all they did was ask me to go through the settings on my email client which it definitely isn't as it's not working on 2 computers and my phone. I'll need to delete the email from Outlook as I can't use the other email accounts with all the error messages coming up, maybe it's finally time to get rid of this email (that I've had for 15 years) as it's just too unreliable. I expect you don't get this with Gmail!

Mine started working again sometime overnight.
Don't delete from Outlook, just stop it for now until fixed. My Outlook worked anyway with all my accounts, just the BT one did not collect due to he server time-out.

BT were going to migrate people from BT Yahoo to BT Mail but this seems to have been halted.
BT Yahoo is so unreliable, I am slowly moving all my contacts off this to alternative emails, independent of an ISP.

thanks I'll leave it for now then. It's just so frustrating when the customer service doesn't listen and always assumes you don't know how to set up an email account when I've not changed anything. I've also started using other accounts for important things but have so many domestic things linked to this one it's a pain to get rid of it completely.

Same for me yesterday and then all miraculously fixed overnight. This used to happen about 3 years ago and then BT blamed migration work BT Yahoo to BT Mail. I called BT last night and they said I needed to contact Microsoft. I looked at their online help but nothing seemed to match this problem. Does anyone know what causes this? Also, I've been waiting years since I was told my BTYahoo mail would migrate to BT Mail and still nothing has happened. Any information would be appreciated

Hi, welcome to the forums.

As many of us have said over the years - don't do anything, no password change, no setting change, no delete/reinstall - don't contact BT helpdesk, don't contact BTCare twitter. These latter two deny any issues, always have done. They say to change things, delete things and cause extra issues.

The cause is a BT server access issue, possibly around the samlfed system (to do with authentication  and an internal system). It does appear to be a mainly BTYahoo access problem.

The problem is NO-ONE in BT will investigate, they seem not to care about it - despite the probable 100s of reports, causing them a lot of money to deal with the complaints etc.

The migration was stopped in September 2014, no reason. BT get extremely aggressive when questioned about it, which makes no sense as it is them that brought in the migration to BTMail.

After having read another thread on here, I've just managed to fix this:

Logged out of webmail

Went to Yahoo login (not BT) and logged in there

Went back to Outlook and it's now working again and I have reinstalled on my phone.
