Emailj folder problems again

Go to solution

Hello all.

I had help with a problem with my email on win 7 Win Live, and Liquorice and one or two others helped me out.

All good till a couple of weeks ago. When I tried to dump some dud emails into my dlete folder I got a message saying "The  selected  messages could not be copied to the folder.

I suppose one way of getting round this is to delete the lot and re install as we did last time. However, if there's a simple way to do the job I'd like to know because I had a lot of p0roblems last time.

Thanks in advance for any tips or solutions. I'm not a computer expert so I'd be grateful if you could keep the language and jargon (abbreviations etc) down to kindergarten level.

Cheers

win 7 Live mail trash folder not accessible

Go to solution

Hi.

I am using win7 and live mail on an old computer. I reset everything about 6 weeks ago with a help from some good guys on this forum. For a couple of weeks now it has stopped me getting rid of my unwanted mail. When I try and send it to the trash the error message says something like 'cannot send this file to trash folder'. It's not a big problem but it's irritating. I don't think I have changed anything in my settings but you never know..... I don't want to resort to a full reset again if I can avoid it, as I had a lot of difficulty last time I did it. If there's a way I'd be grateful for your guidance....

many thanks and Cheers,

If you want to permanently delete an email rather than move it to trash, try highlighting it and then pressing Shift+Del

Can you move mail to other folders ok?

Re: win 7 Live mail trash folder not accessible

Hello again

To answer your questions, yes the emails disappear when I press Shift+Delete. I don't know where they are going but that'll do me for a solution!

Yes, I can move files into folders other than the 'deleted Items' folder- specifically I tried the 'Archive' folder.

I got a new (to me) error message just now...'Could not select 'Deleted Items' on the IMAP server. Try updating the folder list and then try again.

in this case, what does 'Try updating the folder list' mean?

cheers

It means re-syncing your folders with the server. I no longer have a copy of WLM so can't tell you how to do that.

Thinking further, I suspect you have possibly been migrated from BTYahoo where deleted items were placed in the Deleted items folder which no longer exists on the BT Mail system, it is now called Trash. Can you move items directly to the Trash folder?

Yep, there's a Trash folder laready on my system and I've just moved a file to it. You're a genius. I think that'ds the answer. It's a bit late to stress test it - I'll put so0metime in to morrow and clear the response as satisfactory. Once again You've saved my sanity!

Thanks, will be in touch again.

OOPS!

Just gone in to my email again and tried to empty my trash folder.....

When I press deletee I get message:

Are you sure youwant to delete the trash folder? This action cannot be undone. So I replied no

If I try and select delete individual messages I get message: the selected messages could not be copied to the folder.

So I guess we're back to sqyare one - sorry....
